Robot is a machine designed to perform special tasks with speed and precision and the branch of mechanical, Electrical, Computer science for creating, Modifying, and operating robot called Robotics. The word robot comes from the Slavic word ‘robota’ which means labour . The play begins in factory that makes artificial people called robot. There are as many different types of robots as there are task for them to perform.
A Robot can be controlled by a human operator, But most robot controlled by computer Program or electric means .
The robot was coined by Czech playwright Karl Capek in his play R.U.R (Rossum Universal Robot), which opened in Prague in 1921 . The term Robotics was introduced by writer Isaac Asimov. In his science fiction book I, Robot, published in 1950, he presented three law of robotics:
- A Robot may not injure a human being, or, through injection, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human being except where such order would conflict with First law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law
Four Essential Characteristics of Robot.
Sensing, First of all your robot would have to be able to sense its surroundings. It is a important characteristic of robot which are helpful for performing task with precision. You sense your surroundings Giving your robot sensors: light sensors (eye), touch and pressure sensors(hands), chemical sensors (nose), hearing and sonar sensors(ears), and taste sensors (tongue) will give your robot awareness of its environment.
Movement, A robot needs to be able to move around its environment. Whether rolling on wheels, walking on legs or propelling by thrusters a robot needs to be able to move.
Energy, a robot needs to be able to power itself. A robot might be solar powered, battery powered electrically powered.
Intelligence, A robot needs to some kind of “smart”. This is where programming enters the pictures. A programmer is a person who gives the robot its ‘smarts’. The robot will have to have to have some way to receive the program so that it knows what it is to do.
There are many application of robot in industries and daily human life. In industries robots are widely used for Assembly and finishing, Movement of material, performing hazardous conditions as well as Robot can perform jobs that are too dangerous for human.
In present robots are very useful in the field of Medical science. Robots assist in high precision surgeries such as brain, heart surgeries.
