Carlton Mid Tri-series, Glenn Maxwel stunning all-round performance help to Australia won tri-series trophy at home by defeating England by 112 runs (their third-biggest win over this opposition) to lift the Carlton Mid Tri-Series.
In 1st inning of Sunday’s final match, it was Maxwell the batsman who carried Australia from 60 for 4 to 201 for 5 with an excellent 98-ball 95 on a WACA surface – his highest ODI score. In the second, it was Maxwell the bowler who collected a career-best 4 for 46 to help bowl England out for 166 in 39.1 overs. To further add to his outstanding impact on a massive win, Maxwell took a sharp catch at backward point to add to England’s Mitchell Johnson-triggered wobble of 46 for 4, from which they never recovered.
Chasing 278 was not an easy task for England in the final on a pitch that was a little two-paced. They were set back soon into the chase when Josh Hazlewood had the in-form Ian Bell (8) nicking behind in the fourth over .After losing early 1st wicket not a single batsman from England squad couldn’t scores half century and all out in 39.1 overs at scores of just 166 runs. By outstanding performance in all departments AUS registered an emphatic win over Eng by 112 runs and won the title.
The result means that Australia have won their last three ODI series in a row, while England have not got their hands on any sort of a prize since February 2014 – losing series to Sri Lanka (twice) and India in the interim. England, playing their first multi-team final since game two of the 2007 CB Series, which they won to earn their first trophy since 2003, remain luckless
Australia looked a complete balanced all-round side throughout the series. England had their chances and came into the finals whereas India didn’t register a single win. Australia’s preparation looks right on track as their team is clicking as a unit
Man of the Series – Mitchell Starc. Says he is trying to improve everyday. It’s exciting for him as the World Cup is coming up. Adds it’s important to get the swing with the new ball. He is trying to bowl as fast as he can. He thinks Australia have a very good squad and is looking forward to the World Cup.
Man of the Match – Glenn Maxwell. The Big Show had a wonderful day. Scored 95 runs with the bat, took a terrific catch and grabbed four wickets as well. Says it’s nice to perform with bat and ball. Adds it was crucial to get the partnership and credits Faulkner’s knock as well. He wants to get to the three-figure mark and says it would be nice if he gets there.
