Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by four wickets in a close encounter and start their World Cup journey after losing the first match against NZ. However, this is certainly not a satisfying win as Afghanistan ran them very close.

Afghanistan hard luck  for their maiden World Cup triumph when they faced Sri Lanka in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A match.In first half of match Afghanistan batsmen Asghar Stanikzai (54) and Samiullah Shenwari (38) gave their side a solid platform before a strong second-half bowling performance led by Lasith Malinga (3/41) and captain Angelo Mathews (3/41) helped Sri Lanka bowl Afghanistan out for 232. While they were bowled out for a total of 232,Afghanistan’s pacer bowled extreemly well in 2nd half of match and start of Sri Lankan chase was filled with panic and uncertainty brought on by the excellence of Afghanistan’s pacer. Dawlat Zadran struck with the first ball of the innings, trapping Lahiru Thirimanne lbw, and there was almost a second wicket to end the opening over when Kumar Sangakkara chanced a sharp single to the leg side

Afghanistan just missed of the great upsets when Sri Lanka loose their early wickets  51 for 4 chasing 233.But classical Jayawardene brought some relief for SL along with his partner  Angelo Mathews in a fifth-wicket stand of 126.The classy jayawardene complete his  19 century he scored 100  off 118 deliveries,  with eight fours and one six.After mathew’s dismissal Perera stunning unbeaten  47 off 26 deliveries with six fours and 1 six help  Sri Lanka managed to pull off a victory away from Afghanistan.

MATCH SUMMARY-Sri Lanka 236 for 6 (Jayawardene 100, Perera 47*, Hamid 3-45) beat Afghanistan 232 (Stanikzai 54) by four wickets with 10 ball remaining.
