While many Babas and Swamijis are duping people, this 79-year-old man named Attaullah Shariff Shataj Khadiri Baba a.k.a. ‘Biryani Baba’ has devoted his life to feed the poor. His aim is to effectively continue his guru Khadar Baba’s legacy who passed away 40 years ago.
Result: He has fed over 1 crore poor people in the last 40 years.
He organizes Langar Khana at the Cheemalapadu and Vizianagaram Dargah of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. More than a thousand people come to seek his blessing daily. He also organizes ‘Ursu Utsav’ every year on January 25th when the number of people goes up to 8,000 to 10,000.
Two tones of good quality Basmati rice and quintals of meat and ghee are used on a daily average. Vegetarian food is too prepared. The most impressive part here is, Baba himself oversees the preparation and also lends a hand.
This is what he has to say: “I am just providing meals to the needy. With the help of donors and devotees, the programme continues smoothly. I don’t believe in religion or castes, I appeal to the public to help the poor. I believe that service to humans is equal to service to God.”
