Grammy-nominated and Billboard No. 1 Christian rock band Building 429 opened up the 2016 Festival of the Bells concert series Thursday night in front of a huge crowd.

Representatives from local churches and many members of the community turned out on the clear, 75-degree evening to enjoy the concert.

Band members Jason Roy, Michael Anderson, Jesse Garcia and Aaron Branch put on a high-energy, fast-paced show, performing many of their hits including “We Won’t Be Shaken,” “Unashamed” and “Where I Belong.”

Crowds especially loved the special effects for the band’s song “Bonfire,” which lead singer Roy performed on a platform above the crowd while surrounded by colored smoke. Anderson also performed a drum solo on the platform.

Prior to Building 429’s concert, the Hillsboro First Baptist Church Praise Team sang praise and worship music starting at 7:45 p.m.

The Christian opening act series is sponsored by the Hillsboro Ministerial Association for the Festival of the Bells. The event is sponsored by churches in Highland and surrounding counties, along with local businesses.

The festival’s concerts will continue Friday night with country artist Jana Kramer, followed by Phil Vassar headlining the Saturday night concert.
