We’ve written much things about coconut oil because the benefits of this seemingly miraculous liquid are endless. The best qualities are found in organic virgin coconut oil which can help us in many different ways such as whitening our teeth, moisturising our hair, clear athlete’s foot, eczema and the list goes on. But here’s one that might have a bigger impact in our lives than we think about the innocuous coconut oil.
Properties of Coconut Oil
While chemotherapy is unfortunately still a commonly prescribed treatment for patients who have cancer, recent studies have shown that coconut oil is proving itself to become one of cancer’s worst enemies. Lauric acid is what supports our immune system and coconut oil is full of it.
Coconut oil itself is also a highly regarded anti-inflammatory superfood because of its medium-chain fatty acids which helps to kill bacteria, fungi, carcinogens and viruses. Anti-cancer properties are what doctors and medical experts are currently researching heavily on because of some very promising discoveries.
Potential Cancer Killer
A study conducted and published in the Cancer Research Journal discovered that lauric acid with 50% of coconut oil can kill colon cancer cells and the results published are eye-opening. Vitro experiments conducted by the University of Adelaide saw as much as 90% of cancer cells killed in just two days! However, there’s still much to be done as unlike vivo experiments where tests are done in the body, vitro tests are done in a controlled environment outside a living organism.
What this could probably imply is that we do not know whether the dosage used to kill the cancer cells are indeed healthy for the body or would it actually harm it. Nevertheless, the miracle oil has done much to give experts hope of finding a cure for cancer.
Benefits of Saturated Fat
In another experiment conducted on mice and published in the American Physiology Society, coconut oil and its saturated fat content had scientists come up with a conclusion that an increase in saturated fat content in diets reduced inflammation, increased apoptosis which involves the death of cells, and decreased proliferation of cells. What these findings lead to is protection against colon cancers
Hopefully there will be more concrete and groundbreaking evidence in the near future to show that coconut oil is truly one of life’s greatest gifts from mother nature and could someday replace the otherwise, harmful and destructive chemotherapy treatment.
