Back in December 2015 it was confirmed that Aliona Vilani had QUIT Strictly Come Dancing to start a family with her husband.
Aliona announced the news on Twitter, in which she said that after 7 years on Stricrly Come Dancing, it was her last finale that she was going to perform in, adding that it was the “best Strictly experience ever by a long way”.
However, The Mirror newspaper has today reported that Aliona has made a huge U-Turn and is going to return to Strictly Come Dancing this year… just not in the same capacity.
According to the newspaper, Vilani will return to the team as a choreographer this year, so she won’t exactly be in front of the camera. However, rumour has it that if one of the professional dancers drops out, she may be called on to return as a professional dancer on the show later this year.
A source told the publication that she is “really keen to get back on the show in some capacity”, adding that she “is currently talking to show bosses about having a choreography role”.
“She is also their number one dancer to turn to if someone has an injury,” the source also said.
The rumour comes after the line-up of professional dancers was finally confirmed a couple of weeks ago. As ever, we will not find out which celebrities have signed up to dance this year until the show kicks off this autumn.
So far, we know that the professional dancers line-up looks like this:
Females: Karen Clifton, Natalie Lowe, Joanne Clifton, Janette Manrara, and Oti Mabuse
Males: Anton Du Beke, Brandan Cole, Kevin Clifton, Pasha Kovalev, Aljaz Skorjanec, Giovanni Pernice.
More professional dancers will reportedly be announced in due course.
