Maruti has unveiled the production version of the Ciaz, which will go on sale by mid-October. Bigger, sleeker and far better equipped than the SX4 it has replaced, the Maruti Ciaz is a big step forward and puts Maruti back in the mid-size segment game.

Built on an all-new platform, the Ciaz has been conceived from a clean sheet of paper to take on the likes of the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Maruti is also pinning its hopes on the Ciaz to take its image upmarket by making it a credible alternative to the more premium brands.

Maruti sedans are typically associated with cramped cabins, but not the Ciaz, which turns this perception on its head. It’s fair to say that the Ciaz is the most spacious mid-size car and the feeling of space is enhanced by the large glass area and light interiors. The back seat has an incredible amount of legroom and is wide enough for three adults, the flat floor being a help. However, the seat cushions are a touch firm and under-thigh support could be better.

Maruti Ciaz is being presented in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The engines, in both the guises, have been taken from the Ertiga MPV. The petrol variants are powered by the next generation K14 VVT, 1.4-litre K-Series engine which dishes out a maximum power of 91 bhp at 6000 rpm in accordance with a peak torque of 130Nm at 4000 rpm. This 1373cc, 4-cylinder motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while there is also an 4-speed automatic gearbox on offer with the automatic variants. On the other hand, the diesel variants come loaded with Fiat sourced, DDiS200, 1.3L MJD engine which is good enough for making out a maximum power output of 89 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque performance of 200Nm at 1750 rpm. It is paired with company’s conventional 5-speed manual gearbox to maximize fuel efficiency. There is no automatic transmission on offer in the diesel guise.

Maruti Ciaz has best-in-segment fuel efficiency in both petrol and diesel guises. It has usurped Honda City from the top position and is now country’s most fuel efficient diesel sedan with a fuel efficiency of 26.21kmpl. The Honda nut used to offer 26kmpl as certified by ARAI. In petrol fuel trim, the manual transmission variants return, again, best-in-class mileage of 20.73kmpl. On the other hand, the automatic gearbox variants deliver a fuel economy of 19.12kmpl (ARAI Specified). Hence, the Ciaz is the country’s leading sedan in terms of fuel efficiency in both the guises.

The BEst Price For Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is $11025.24 – $15457.42.
