McLaren buyers are already spoilt for choice – hey, if you can spend half-a-mill or more on a car, there are lots of options open to you in life! – but now the British sports car brand is adding a range of aftermarket personalisation packs to its ranks.
The new range of McLaren Special Operations (MSO) Defined accessories allows owners to “refresh the design of their cars”, be they old or new.
The styling kits are sold and fitted in McLaren stores, and they can be fitted to any of the McLaren Super Series models – the 12C, 650S and 675LT – at any time. The MSO Defined carbon-fibre options are said to “enhance the dramatic design of the car and in true McLaren fashion, also frequently bring a performance advantage, as a result of weight saving”.
The range of bits includes a carbon-fibre rear diffuser that is designed to be lighter and enhance air flow, new carbon-fibre wing mirror arms with matching casings, and louvred front fenders that are said to be inspired by historic McLaren race cars. There’s also a carbon-fibre bonnet, like that seen on the limited edition McLaren 650S Can-Am (pictured top).
It’s not just the exterior that sees the option of MSO Defined treatment: the interior of Super Series models can see the addition of carbon-fibre vent bezels and sill protectors. Then there’s a new carbon-fibre steering wheel for racers, which can be trimmed in Alcantara or leather, and the option of larger carbon-fibre gear shift paddles.
“The growing MSO Defined portfolio gives customers an opportunity to further personalise their cars and significantly expands our wider accessories portfolio,” said Carl Whipp, aftersales director at McLaren Automotive. “We have experienced significant interest in the MSO Defined range on Super Series cars being ordered new and we are now very pleased to be bringing these features to a wider group of customers as a retrofit choice.”
